நோன்பின் முதல் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை பாரம்பரியமாக பாலைவனத்தில் கிறிஸ்துவின் சோதனையில் கவனம் செலுத்துகிறது. இது ஒரு ஆன்மீக "கிக்-ஆஃப்" ஆக செயல்படுகிறது, ஈஸ்டரை நோக்கிய நாற்பது நாள் பயணத்திற்கான தொனியை அமைக்கிறது.

The first Sunday of Lent traditionally focuses on the Temptation of Christ in the Desert. It serves as a spiritual “kick-off,” setting the tone for the forty-day journey toward Easter.

1. The Wilderness Experience

The “desert” or “wilderness” is more than a physical place; it represents a space where distractions are stripped away.

  • Silence — Jesus enters the desert to hear the Father’s voice clearly.
  • Preparation — Lent becomes a season of intentional withdrawal from the “noise” of modern life to refocus on our inner spiritual state.

2. The Nature of Temptation

The Gospel highlights three areas of temptation that mirror our own struggles:

  • Physical Desires (Bread) — The pull to prioritize material comfort and instant gratification over spiritual nourishment.
  • Power and Pride (Kingdoms) — The urge to seek control, status, or shortcuts instead of trusting God’s timing.
  • Testing God (Temple Parapet) — The temptation to demand signs or “bargain” with God rather than practicing humble faith.

3. Human Vulnerability vs. Divine Strength

Jesus is “led by the Spirit” into the desert, yet He is also “hungry.”

  • Authentic Humanity — Our struggles are validated; temptation is part of the human condition.
  • Scripture as a Shield — Jesus responds to each temptation with Scripture, showing the power of God’s Word.

4. The “New Adam”

This Sunday is often linked to the Fall in Genesis. Where Adam and Eve gave in to temptation in a lush garden, Jesus triumphs in a barren desert.

This frames Lent as a season of reparation and victory—through Christ, we can regain the self-control and grace lost by original sin.

1. The Mountaintop Experience

In the Gospel (Matthew 17:1–9 for 2026), Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain. His face shines like the sun and His clothes become dazzling white.

  • The “Preview” — A glimpse of the Resurrection meant to strengthen the disciples before the Passion.
  • The Witnesses — Moses (Law) and Elijah (Prophets) appear, showing Jesus as the fulfillment of God’s promises.

2. “Listen to Him”

The climax is the voice from the cloud: “This is my beloved Son… listen to him.”

  • The Command — Lent is not only about doing (fasting, almsgiving) but about listening.
  • Transition — We are called to listen even when Jesus speaks of the Cross, not only when He shines in glory.

3. Coming Down the Mountain

Peter wants to stay on the mountain and build tents, but Jesus leads them back down.

  • Reality Check — We cannot live only in “spiritual highs.”
  • The Mission — Grace received in prayer is meant to strengthen us for the valleys of daily life.

Description (English): The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and to the anniversary of Our Lord’s birth on Christmas. Advent celebrations leading up to Christmas. The four weeks of Advent represent the following themes:

Week 1: Hope: Emphasizes the anticipation of the coming of Jesus Christ, symbolized by the first candle, often referred to as the "Prophet's Candle".

Week 2: Peace: Focuses on the peace that Jesus brings, symbolized by the second candle.

Week 3: Joy: Highlights the joy of the Christmas season, symbolized by the third candle.

Week 4: Love: Concludes with the theme of love, symbolized by the fourth candle, known as the "Angel's Candle".

Each week encourages reflection and preparation for the celebration of Christmas, inviting believers to deepen their faith and anticipation for the birth of Jesus.

FeTCANA Tamil VBS Summary

The FeTCANA Tamil Vacation Bible School (VBS) was organized with a clear structure and strong volunteer support, creating a vibrant, well-coordinated learning environment for children and families. This year, 73 Tamil students across North America have benefited from the program.

Class organization

  • Four class groups: Structured by age and learning needs to ensure focused, age-appropriate instruction.

Volunteer team

  • Teaching volunteers: 8 dedicated instructors led lessons, guided discussions, and supported student growth.
  • Technical support: 3 FeTCANA Board volunteers managed logistics and digital tools for smooth operations.

Parent interaction

  • Feedback collected: A Google Form was sent to parents and responses were received, offering insights for improvements and affirming program strengths.

Closing note

This year’s Tamil VBS reflects FeTCANA’s commitment to language, faith, and cultural identity—thanks to structured classes, passionate volunteers, and active parent participation.
